Beware of Scammers

Events

Eugene OR

Description

I got scammed by a person saying they were responding to my post where I was ISO a Shih Tzu. She sent pictures and even videos. Looking back, I can now see all the hints I should have heeded. I was told she could transport the dog to me. On the day of transport, I was contacted by the transport place saying I needed to put down a $275, refundable insurance. It would be refunded to me in cash when the dog was delivered. I refused. Got an email saying that if the insurance was refused, the animal would have to be held in quarantine for XX days at the expense of the sender or me. I refused again. The woman said she would find another transport and she did say it was a little more expensive. Her expense. On this delivery day, I got a call saying that because of some kind of atmospheric condition, the crate that the sender provided was not adequate. I would have to pay an extra $550-$760 for a special crate so the animal would be safe. I refused. This company was Flight Nanny Transport. The Shih Tzu was supposed to be in Baker City, and it would be transported to Eugene. Crazy. I was in contact with the woman one last time and said I was not going to have anything to do with it. I had put Lori in my heart, but I no longer think she even existed in the way I was told. I think she may have been in Mexico or some other foreign country. BEWARE!!! In addition, they will want you to use PayPal, Zelle, or a money gift card to put down payments on the animal you are wanting. The emails that they want you to send it to will (lots of times) not go through and they will have you try a different one till one works. IT'S ALL A SCAM. Also, check the phone numbers out. The one that was given to me was supposed to be in Baker city, but the area code was for the Washington DC area. The following is from another Poster on the Portland Pet craigslist. All so familiar to what I went through. Please do not email or text your phone number to people claiming to have pets for rehoming. It’s a scam. Also, if they have a picture of the animal and their phone number on the picture and state “small rehoming fee” it’s a scam. If they tell you they are out of state and need you to send them a gift card to hold your pet or to send your pet, it’s a scam! Watch out for fake pictures. If it doesn’t look real or the dog is too “perfect” most of the time, it’s a scam. Lastly, if they have a post and it says he and then she and as you scroll down it turns from a dog to a cat or cat to a dog, it’s a scam. Be safe! Just don’t want to see anyone get ripped off.
