Why is Congress taking another six week recess?

They took their usual summer recess, came back for three weeks and left again for another six weeks and won’t be back until after the election. They’re in session for only one week before leaving AGAIN for Thanksgiving. That is 13 weeks out of 17. Does your job close for recess or allow you to take that much time off? If so, where do you work? I’d like to apply.
