Description
Bands from around the country gather as the Rulebreakers Ball returns to San Antonio. In October of 2019 the first ever “Rulebreaker’s Ball” showcasing bands from all over the country that just do it their own way. Most of the bands are categorized as “metal” or “punk” for their tendencies to play loud and fast. However, the connection is a spirit to rock n roll on their own terms. To Hell with the mainstream! Come check out some loud and ruthless music from the likes of “The Split Lips”, from Pennsylvania “Wrath of Typhon”, “The Guillotines”, “Buzzed”, from Mississipi “Before I Hang” and the infamous “Rancid Vat” will retake the stage yet again. There will be a “meet and greet mixer” of sorts at Hi-Tones on Thursday the 20th at 8pm. The main festivities will be at Bond’s Rock Bar Friday and Saturday October 21st and 22nd, with the first band expected to start at 8pm. The initial “Rulebreaker’s Ball” in 2019 was the brain child of Marla Vee co-founder of Rancid Vat. She saw a lack of music festivals/showcases/gatherings that catered to the more loud/violent/intense of the punk/metal world. San Antonio has always been a huge supporter of the hard, fast and loud bands of the world, and made for a perfect host city. Unfortunately, we all know that COVID-19 shut down the world, and therefore there was not a “Rulebreaker’s Ball” in 2020 or 2021. Yet, with time the world has rebounded and the pandemic has ended. Now is the time more than ever for independent bands to travel the country, play hard, party harder, and connect with their fans. Beyond seeing a band that you already like, the idea of the “Rulebreaker’s Ball” is that you can find new bands, and meet people from all over the country (or even the world) that have similar taste in music and outlooks on life. The objective of a reoccurring weekend in the same host city at about the same time of the year, is to help make the Ball something to plan and look forward to. Bring your merch money! Most of these bands play for the love of playing, and their merchandise sales help cover the costs of playing live music. The “Rulebreaker’s Ball” can be found on Facebook, or contact “Bond’s Rock Bar” Address: 450 Soledad St, San Antonio, TX 78205 Hours: Friday 4pm-2am ; Saturday 6pm-2am
