seeking interested musicians for new indie rock band

Description

Hi there! I’m a 28 year old songwriter and guitarist looking to put together an indie rock band in the San Diego area. I’ve been playing music for about 15 years (guitar for that entire period and well as bass and keys more recently) and I’ve been in several bands during that time - most recently two metal bands, which I’m still active in. I’ve always loved indie music and have spent the past couple of months writing for this project. I’ve got about 30 minutes of material that I’m focusing on and I would like to start developing the project around these ideas, polishing them in a collaborative setting and then moving into a more collaborative writing process for future material. I have a folder full of ideas to pull from down the road that I think could fit well in the context of this project. What is the project? The sound I’m going for is grounded in sad indie rock and incorporating elements of electronic music, indie pop, dream pop, singer-songwriter and more. Fair warning, I don’t have a tendency to write happy songs and while I would like this a flexible project, capable of writing in various styles, I don’t expect this band to write the feel good hit of the summer. Knowing that indie is a nebulous, borderline meaningless label these days, here are some bands and artists that can serve as points of reference for the sounds I’d like to incorporate (in no particularly order): Built to Spill, Current Joys, Snail Mail, Alex G, Mom Jeans., Mitski, Men I Trust, Alvvays, Lomelda, Indigo de Souza, Japanese Breakfast, Soccer Mommy, Phoebe Bridgers and many, many more. Who am I looking for? First and foremost, I’m looking for experienced, organized, collaborative, thoughtful, kind, and likeminded musicians who have similar musical interests. Ideally, I’d like to find musicians interested in helping to elevate this current batch of songs (I know the rhythm sections in particular could use some love) and develop a unique, cohesive sound as we move into a more collaborative writing process. I’m seeking a variety of instrumentalists, but primary: - Bassist - Drummer - Synth/Keys player - Guitarist(s) The ability to sing and harmonize is also a big plus. Additionally, I would prefer to focus on vocals in this project for the moment, however, (knowing that nothing is set in stone), I have written 3 guitar parts for a handful of ideas so having two guitarists is of interest to me (allowing me to be the third when needed). What are objectives for this project? My primary goals for this project are to gig locally and regionally and professionally record our output. Expectations include the ability to practice on a regular basis and a reasonable about of time to commit to the project. I have a full-time job remote job with some flexibility. I don’t anticipate or plan to make a full-time career out of music but I do intend to take this project seriously. I’m a highly organized person and making consistent progress is important to me. That said, I’m also not in a rush to put a full line-up together. I’m looking for bandmates who are a good fit musically and personally and would rather prioritize longevity than rushing into a poor fit. However, I am eager to play shows again and record once we feel like we have a solid line-up. I’m also open to pushing ahead with a partial line-up and recording an EP or album if the filling out a band ends up taking a longer than anticipated. Next Steps! If this seems like a project you’re interested in, please reach out and let’s set up a time to chat. I’m happy to share the material I’ve been working on at that time if it seems like a good fit.
