Description

Description: This evening will commemorate the 120th founding of the Winter Night Club with a special program in the historic Broadmoor Ballroom and will include a tour of the original Broadmoor building, period themed entertainment and turn-of-the century dinner selections from the Broadmoor chefs. The Winter Night Club began in the late 1800s as two dinner clubs, the Mahogany Club and the Red Mahogany Club. Meetings were held in members’ homes, with members rotating the responsibility to lead a discussion following the meal. Both of the original clubs dissolved after a few years. Former Red Mahogany members met with other members of the community on November 5, 1902 and created a larger group. Six days after the final organizational meeting, invitations were mailed to 100 prominent men in the community. The first regular meeting was on December 10, 1902. The group met no fewer than five times during the winter for a dinner followed by select speakers. Our exciting evening lineup of history and music for the October 18th dinner: Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt: Kurt Skinner has entertained audiences across the Western states, delivering first-person humanities performances as Theodore Roosevelt. He has brought the Rough Rider / Wilderness Warrior president to life before wildlife refuge and conservation audiences, travel and tourism groups, civic clubs and historical societies, schools and scout troops, and recently performed with the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation and was featured in the North Dakota Badlands Chautauqua. A retired military officer-turned high school U.S. history teacher, Kurt is a life-long student of history. His students would attest to the fact that it’s important for him to “get it right” as regards historical accuracy. Theodore Roosevelt’s presence looms large in his daily routine, as he is currently writing the story of Colonel Roosevelt’s post-war bond of brotherhood with his Rough Rider regiment. In his performances as TR, he wants to honor and faithfully represent this man that he so admires. Kurt's goal in the persona of TR is to engage, entertain, and enlighten audiences, and remind us, speaking TR’s own words, what has always been great about Teddy Roosevelt’s America. Kurt is a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Association, the Colorado Humanities, and the American Legion. America the Beautiful Chorus: Officially, the group is the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society doing business as the America the Beautiful Chorus.
