Cafe Sankofa and Sankofa Reproductive Health And Healing Center presents a movie screening of the documentary Aftershock. This documentary follows “..the preventable deaths of their loved ones due to childbirth complications, two families galvanize activists, birth-workers and physicians to reckon with one of the most pressing American crises of our time – the US maternal health crisis.” This movie screening will be followed by a facilitated doula Q&A meeting. We wanted to dedicate this movie screening to our Doula Sister Tanaya G. Thomas-Edwards. This will be held at Cafe Sankofa (2323 S. Salina Street) on Monday, October 10th from 3-6pm. We will strongly encourage people to wear masks indoors in this space. AFTERSHOCK, which spotlights the long-lasting effects of the US maternal health crisis, premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. Doc Competition, and was awarded the Special Jury Award: Impact for Change. AFTERSHOCK was acquired out of Sundance by Disney’s Onyx Collective and ABC News Studios and released on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ worldwide on July 19.
