Located near O'Hare International Airport, Norridge maintains a thriving commercial community alongside a population of working to middle-class families. Increasing the local tree canopy will have positive impacts on cardiovascular and respiratory health, overall well-being, and community engagement. When planted near schools, these trees will have the added benefit of reducing the symptoms of ADHD and improving academic outcomes for local students.
With financial support from Pure Storage Foundation and One Tree Planted, we will be planting 15 new trees in the parkways surrounding Pennoyer and Giles Schools in Norridge.
We will meet at Pennoyer School (5200 N. Cumberland Ave) before splitting off to tackle additional plantings near Giles Elementary School at 4251 N Oriole Avenue.
No experience is necessary! Volunteers will help us dig holes, plant trees, mulch, and water.
Please bring a mask, long pants, closed toe shoes, a (full) water bottle and sunscreen. We will take care of everything else! Note that masks may need to be worn for the duration of the project. We will limit group size and maintain social distancing as needed for participants' health and safety. We look forward to making a difference in this community and hope that you will join us!
*Please include a phone number in your registration in case of last-minute schedule changes due to weather!
