Join us this October for a series focused on thinking out of the box and learning new techniques to implement into your practice. As mental health clinicians, we are continual learners of methods and evidence-based practices to better serve our community. Join us for one or all of these introductory sessions where you will leave having your questions answered and with resources on how to continue to learn or get certified. Each session is taught by a licensed clinician who is passionate about sharing their expert knowledge. Session Details: Engaging the Body in Therapy: Yoga-Based Mental Health Treatment (Oct 3): Jessica Gladden is a somatic-based trauma therapist and social work professor at Western Michigan University. She has received her MSW from Grand Valley State University and her PhD in Social Work from Michigan State University. In her private practice, she uses a combination of traditional talk therapy, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and Yoga-Based Therapy. She believes that using body-based interventions can bring healing to all individuals. She has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching yoga in studios and as a group intervention for about 6 years. She has published several articles relating to the use of yoga in therapy and will be offering her first yoga teacher training in September, with a special version for mental health professionals starting in January. In this session, Jessica will focus on an introduction to body-based interventions and how to begin implementing yoga into your practice. Creative Ways to Work with Kids: From Trauma Based Therapy to Mindfulness (Oct 10) Savanna Wright is a licensed Social Worker who works with the individual, family, and community to ensure each child is fully supported in their everyday lives. She is known to hop on an I.E.P, turn her office into an art studio, and create one of a kind therapy groups for children. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Parent Management Training-Oregon Model (PMTO), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Savanna currently owns a private practice named Wright Solutions LLC located within Human Kind Counseling in Grandville, MI. Her session will focus on the question: "How do we create an environment where children feel comfortable and excited to do therapy?" In this training participants will explore ways to get creative with multiple treatment modalities. This training will also focus on how to get buy in from children and their caregivers to do the real work Animal Assisted Therapy: How to Begin the Journey of Incorporating Pet Therapy into Your Practice (Oct 18) Sally Nulph is a licensed professional counselor with over 25 years of experience in the field of therapy. Modalities include: Somatic IFS, EMDR, Prolonged Exposure, Brief Strategic Family Therapy, DBT, and Animal Assisted Therapy. She is passionate about supporting people who are recovering from trauma and building autonomy and self-leadership along the way. Sally has worked with dogs in individual therapy sessions, group therapy sessions, mindfulness, training for canine good citizenship, as well as family therapy and supporting people with emotional support animals. She continues to support people and animals by working together for greater mental health. Sally is passionate about somatic work and interventions that include animals are very effective. Excited to share with you insights and experiences surrounding animal-assisted therapy. And provide resources and support for other therapists who want to join the exciting modality of animal-assisted therapy. Sally will be bringing her own dog Flash Gordon to the session to demonstrate pet therapy techniques. If you would like to join us for all three sessions.
