Description
SCOPE OF POSITION This position will be responsible for facility maintenance and repair for all of the property owned by The Salvation Army in Spokane. The primary focus of Fleet is to maintain all vehicles in safe working order, drive for various campus programs and provide support to our ministry mission. This position will also be responsible for supervision, training and coordination of the Temporary workers and volunteer maintenance staff. We are looking for someone with high personal standards of cleanliness, thoroughness and attention to detail along with the physical ability to satisfactorily complete all tasks in an efficient manner. Must be able to work effectively within the environment of people in crisis. All responsibilities are under the supervision of the Maintence Supervisor in coordination with the Corps Officers and the Ministry Team. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE • High school diploma or equivalent level required; Degree preferred • Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, vehicle & machinery repair • Minimum of three years experience with maintenance, janitorial or fleet repair duties • Possess valid Washington State Driver’s License and clear driver record • Successfully complete a Criminal Background check • Good communication and organizational skills • Follow through on assigned duties and excellent self motivation • Work well with a minimum of direct supervision • Possess written and verbal communication skills • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Supervise and train trainees and volunteers assigned to the maintenance department • In-house maintenance and repair • Supply all cleaning, paper products and equipment for all related program staff • Assist with local IT, security system and alarm testing, troubleshooting and repairs • Perform minor repairs to elevator systems for all buildings • Provide troubleshooting and repair for all equipment as needed • Provide input and guidance as Safety Committee member for all programs at the Spokane Corps • Perform special maintenance or repair to system(s) after consultation with the Facilities Manager • Work closely with existing staff to ensure that all repairs are completed in a satisfactory manner • Assist with ensuring all jobs are handled efficiently by the selected vendors • Conduct yourself in a cordial manner with all staff and outside patrons • Discharge your duties in a conscientious and responsible manner • Maintain written log of all maintenance, project, & repair requests with the completion date • Assist with maintaining accurate inventory of all maintenance equipment and custodial supplies • Arrange repair of maintenance equipment as needed • Maintain a complete and up to date source of Material Safety & Data Sheets (MSDS) for all buildings • Turnover Transitional and Shelter Housing units for new occupants as needed • Run maintenance or janitorial related purchasing errands as requested • Facilitate room set-ups as directed • Daily sweeping and mopping of all common areas, offices, lobby, etc. • Vacuum all office spaces and hallways as needed • Dust and straighten furnishings as needed • Empty trash receptacles in meeting rooms, warehouse, food bank, offices, labs, breakrooms and restrooms • Daily cleaning of all restrooms, breakrooms, walls, floors, fixtures and surfaces • Assist staff who perform Program Area custodial duties • Assist staff in maintaining building security and safety • Keep building exterior patrolled for trash, cleanliness and needed repairs • Report all graffiti, repair problems or hazardous conditions to Facilities Manager • Perform snow removal and apply de-ice products as needed during working hours • Strip, wax or burnish areas on a periodic basis, as directed • Replace light bulbs as necessary in all buildings • Operate necessary cleaning equipment, tools and apparatus to perform custodial duties • Drain air compressors in all Boiler rooms as needed • Check roofing vents/drains • Replacement of filters and inspection of HVAC equipment • Clean Carpets as requested • Landscaping as scheduled or directed • Periodically Inspect per requirements o Emergency exits, o Building & grounds lighting o Building security o Plumbing equipment. o Fire Alarm system. o Lawn sprinkler system o Vehicles o Roofing o Boilers; Air Handlers o Other Miscellaneous systems PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis • Grasp, push, pull, objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, carts, doors, and reach overhead • Operate varied maintenance equipment (floor care, snow blower, lawn care equipment) • Operate a multi-line telephone and other office equipment • Access and produce information from a computer • Understand written information • Lift up to 40 lbs on a regular basis • Sweep, clean, shovel snow, and perform other janitorial tasks as needed Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
