Description

The laughter is coming to Owego when Homebrewed Comedy hits the stage at the John Barleycorn on Wednesday, Oct. 26. RJ Purpura is headlining the show and Bill Lake and Todd Gursslin are joining host Mike Peters. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and there's a recommended $5 donation at the door, which opens at 7. Come out and enjoy the show. About the comedians: Mike Peters, a Binghamton comedian, specializes in self-deprecating, observational humor. A contributor for Funny or Die, Peters is the founder of Homebrewed Comedy. He hosts at the Syracuse Funny Bone and Wise Crackers in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., won the Utica Brews Laugh Contest and Uptown Roast Battle and opened for Super Troopers’ Rabbit, Erik Stolhanske and Gilbert Gottfried. Peters produces shows all over New York and hosts his weekly podcasts, On the Mic with Mike Peters and It’s About Time: A Sopranos Watch Podcast. Todd Gursslin is a stand-up comedian based out of Rochester and a co-host of two podcasts, Can You Laugh About It Now and Hate This Podcast. You wouldn’t think an ex-heroin addict in his 40s would be mature enough not to subject himself into an ego-driven artform that breeds mental illness. No Gursslin. He’s looking to fill the giant hole left over from past trauma by making people laugh. A regular at the Comedy at the Carlson, Gursslin has opened for Dan Soder, Mike Recine and StavrosHalkias. A former contributing writer for David Letterman and Craig Ferguson, Bill Lake is a host at the Syracuse Funny Bone, performed yearly at the Binghamton Comedy Crawl and is a founder of the Boho Comedy Club in Binghamton. He’s performed at the Salem Comedy Festival, the Rubber City Festival, the Asheville Comedy Festival, the Cape Fear Comedy Festival, the Plano Comedy Festival and North Carolina Comedy Festival. One of Binghamton’s strongest comedians, Lake uses his smart writing to entertain audiences all over the upstate area. He made the finals of Buffalo’s Funniest Person in 2021. Originally from Rochester, RJ Purpura has been writing and performing comedy for many years and has had the privilege of working with comedians such as Dave Attell, Doug Stanhope, Big Jay Oakerson, Gilbert Gottfriend and Dan Soder. Purpura’s rapid-fire witticisms cover a wide variety of topics, all with an (un)healthy dose of self-deprecation, that lead to him being named the 2017 Funniest Person in Rochester. Purpura has performed all over upstate New York, in New York City, at the Finger Lakes Comedy Festival and the Rochester Fringe Festival.
