Description
The Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW), a non-profit theater and community center, is looking for Volunteer Program Members to join its Fall/Holiday Season to work in a production team for its Builders of the New World’s annual year-end theater arts education program for children living in the NYC shelter system. The children’s program culminates in a Creative Class and Holiday Celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 14, where you would participate in and mentor the children in a creative class. Being displaced by homelessness does not always allow a child the opportunity to have a traditional family gathering complete with nutritious food and gifts. For decades, ATW has remained committed to running this award-winning programs even while arts funding has dwindled. We have done this by relying on people power. In our impressive 32nd year, we are looking for professional, mature, and fully vaccinated adults to share their professional skills in a production team to organize the Food, Gifts, market and support other aspects of the program, and to share their compassion by mentoring these precious children during the Dec 14th Creative Class and Holiday Celebration. Be a part of ATW’s Builders of the New World program: Apply to be a part of our volunteer and mentorship team by filling out this short application. Learn more about ATW’s programs, including its year-end Children’s program, at a Virtual Information and Interview Session on Monday, 10/17 from 6:00pm - 8:30pm, Saturday 10/29 from 2:00pm - 4:30pm, Saturday 11/05 from 2:00pm - 4:30pm, Monday 11/07 from 6:00pm - 8:30pm, Saturday 11/19 from 2:00pm - 4:30pm. Attend a two-part mandatory in-person training series with our Artistic Director, Thurman E. Scott, on Tuesday 11/ 8 6:00 - 9:30pm and Tuesday 11/15 6:00 - 9:30pm OR Wednesday 11/30 6:00 - 9:30pm and Saturday, 12/3 6:00 - 9:30pm. These training sessions will provide you with tools to tap into your creative potential and help you to better articulate your thoughts and ideas. You will gain an understanding of the ideas and concepts behind BNW and will learn the skills required to work with the children in our program. Join a BNW Program production team and support on a flexible weekly basis in Production, Event Planning, Marketing, Video, Fundraising, Food/Gifts. Bilingual Spanish speakers are highly encouraged to join us! We are looking for support translating English to Spanish because we work with a multilingual group of children! If your time is limited, you can RSVP to volunteer for a day and do some behind the scenes work to make the program happen! Decorate our theatre on Friday, 12/9 from 11:00-4:00pm or Saturday, 12/10 from 11:00-4:00pm. Help set-up the theatre for the children’s parties on 12/14 from 12:00-5:00pm. Join our food team and help prepare a home-cooked meal for the children. Help transport gifts, decoration, and meals to and from our generous donors to The Actors Theatre Workshop and to various homeless shelters throughout the city.
