A few weeks back my elderly dad passed away and left his best buddy behind here on Earth. As you might expect he's a good boy ++. He's in excellent health and is still very fit and active and I expect he's got a lot of life left before he joins dad on the other side. He's been fed on vet-grade dog food his whole life and has received the best of veterinary care. Dad trained him to function as his service dog and he does pick-up and retrieve items and dad swore he detected low blood-sugar too but I can't attest to that as I just never witnessed it myself. He's super attentive as you'd expect a service dog to be I think he's too easily distracted to be truly excellent at his job, but dad had his own way of doing things. That included not fixing him so he's intact but I believe the adoption site where I have him listed insists on correcting that as part of the adoption process. I've been fostering him for the last 2-years after dad moved into a full-service nursing home where he couldn't keep the dog so I know him well but his best life isn't with me. An ideal home I think would include other dogs because he adores other dogs but he's Ok on his own. He's good with kids and older people but he can hit the end of the retractable leash pretty hard if he spots a squirrel and gives chase. I have no idea how he is with cats. To help filter out folks with bad intents I am using an adoption service for this and they do expect a nominal adoption fee but the proceeds all go to them to fund their continuing work. I'm not looking for anything here for myself or the estate other than to find a good home for a dog that's been a great and loving companion for his whole life.
