This documentary is a story of about a Chinese-American Christian family whose search for their roots leads them to Mississippi. On this journey, they find miraculous family revelations and uncover the racially complex history of Chinese in the segregated South. The film not only shows a powerful family testimony, but it explores the seldom discussed discrimination Asians historically faced and touches upon the role of the church in helping establish Chinese mission schools. It also highlights the interconnected relationship between the Black and Chinese communities in the Jim Crow era and the generational impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act.
We will start with a light dinner at 5pm, followed by the screening of the documentary at 6pm, and close out the evening with a Q&A from Larissa Lam, one of the producers of this film.
