Someone help me with this question why did we go to Afghanistan?

I am prior army done plenty of tours in Afghanistan and iraq but why did we really go? Why did we really go there and fight a war I have seen and done things over there that no human should have to do and see and u thought I was doing it to protect this country I lost a lot of brothers alotttttt but watching these shows today I have finally asked myself why? I suffer with ptsd not a day goes by I don’t think about ending it and for now I don’t want to shame or hurt my parents but what did we gain? Lost a lot of brothers over there and after 20 years we up and leave and we leave terrorist millions of dollars worth of weapons vehicles gear they say bin laden is dead but is he? I don’t know I didn’t see it happen didn’t see any pictures or proof as a country who lost a lot of are soldiers then turn around and help arm terrorist to the teeth don’t we deserve to see proof
