The quest to discover one’s family lineage can sometimes be difficult for people throughout the African Diaspora due to historical complications brought about by slavery. Finding records can be a daunting task. This short film documents the incredible story of an African American family that embarks on a journey of discovery after a Lost Friends letter from a formally enslaved ancestor is unearthed. Join the Rapides Parish Library as we view this compelling film and continue to discuss the implications Lost Friends history has for us today and the possibilities of connection it conveys. This event is part of our 2022 Rapides Reads program and relates directly to the Lost Friends history depicted in our featured book, The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate.
