In this workshop, you will learn the basics of soil trophic levels (soil food web) and nutrient cycling. You will become familiar with the role of beneficial bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes in promoting plant growth, storing carbon, and increasing sustainability in plant systems.
In addition, you will learn how to efficiently make compost using an upright cage system to help manage the pile. You will learn how to mix the proper ingredients (green to brown ratios and inoculum) using the tarp method.
Finally, you will receive a hands-on microscropy lesson to become familar with how to check your compost for fungi to bacteria ratios and overall quality.
