Description

Law enforcement officers and agencies are frequently requested by schools, businesses, and community members for direction and presentations on what they should do if confronted with an active shooter event. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT(Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Tactics) in 2004, provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills. This free course will be presented by Sergeant Dave Coleman and Sergeant Ryan Auvil of the Murrysville Police Department. Sgt. Dave Coleman has been in law enforcement for the last 14 years. In addition to being a CRASE instructor, he is an ALERRT level 2 active shooter instructor and trains Murrysville Officers how to respond to active attack/shooter events. Sgt. Coleman is also a member and Assistant Team Leader of Westmoreland SWAT, a regional SWAT team covering 9 Westmoreland County communities. He has received training in both basic and advanced SWAT operations and SWAT team leader school. Sgt. Ryan Auvil is a 11 year law enforcement veteran. He also trains Murrysville Police Officers in how to respond to active shooter/attack events and has received training in both level 1 and level 2 active shooter training. Sgt. Auvil is an Assistant Team Leader of Westmoreland SWAT and has received numerous training relating to SWAT operations. Some of those include, Basic and Advanced SWAT, High risk manhunt operations, tactical ropes operations.
