Looking to form a pub / Irish folk group

Meets

Ithaca NY

Description

Hi all! I'm an experienced musician who ran a moderately successful folk band before I moved to Ithaca. We would play what I think of as "pub songs" - Irish folk, a little bit of trad, with some English, Scottish, and other folks songs mixed in (I like chanteys too, and you better believe I'll work some Stan Rogers in there). Stuff you might hear the Dubliners, the Chieftains, the Corries, etc., play. In my old band I mostly sang and played the bodhrán, though I also fool around on the concertina and some other instruments. My past band members have played guitar, mando, piano, fiddle, flute, and banjo. Ithaca has some *great* trad groups, but I haven't found a local group that emphasizes folk songs. I miss playing and singing with folks and I still have the book I developed. Porchfest was inspiring, so I thought I'd give this a try! What I'm looking for: - Chordal instruments like keyboard and guitar. - Melody instruments like fiddle and flute. - Folks playing one or more of the above who would also like to sing, or at least creatively bellow at the appropriate times. What I like to play: - Irish, Scottish, English, and U.S. folk songs - A little bit of trad, most often as a lead-in or between songs - Sets of tunes to keep the energy moving and keep audiences engaged - Songs an audience can sing along with Interested? Send a recording of your playing! Something like The Rocky Road To Dublin. I like the Dubliner's version where one of the measures before the chorus has four beats instead of three, but the more consistent version is good too. I like it in or around Em for my voice, but I can adapt. We can rehearse in my home in Ithaca, though I'm open to other places as well. Please be vaccinated for COVID and not a nut. Well, musical nuts are ok.
