We will be hosting a maple tapping class at the Bullitt County Cooperative Extension Office on November 3, at 5:30 PM. Nathan Rider, Bullitt County Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent, will teach the basics of tapping maple trees and boiling maple syrup ahead of the 2022-23 syruping season this winter. We will walk out into the Extension "Sugar Bush" (grove of Sugar Maples) to try tapping first hand before taking a bucket, tube, and tap home to try on your own.
Take note of the timing though. If you hope to tap maple trees this winter, please mark a few potential trees (10" in diameter or larger) with surveyors tape or a mark of spray paint before the leaves fall this autumn. We will discuss tapping sugar maples, red maples, box elders, and black walnuts.
The class will cost $10 per person and each registrant will take home one tap, tube, and bucket to use at home this winter.
