Our mission is to provide opportunities for women and girls with disabilities to develop confidence and self advocacy skills within a fun and supportive environment. We believe that the options available to girls with disabilities should reflect their boundless potential. We envision a world in which girls and women with disabilities have equal opportunities to reach their full potential. We’ve seen proof that, if granted the opportunity, girls and women with disabilities show great potential to be leaders, role models, and valuable members of society. Our state and national programs aim to open those doors. Miss Amazing began in 2007, in Omaha, Nebraska by a thirteen-year-old girl with a big dream, since then, it has grown from a small community program, into the nation’s largest empowerment event circuit dedicated to girls and women with disabilities. Since expanding nationwide for the first time in 2011, Miss Amazing programs are now in 36 states and have touched the lives of over 2,000 girls and women with disabilities. Because of widely-held myths about their capabilities, girls with disabilities are often held back from taking risks that could enrich their personal development, deprived of opportunities to make friends, and granted less access to resources. As a result, they are more likely to experience low self-esteem than girls without disabilities. But, What if we were to question the status quo? What if, from an early age, those with disabilities were equally as encouraged to consider their goals, challenge themselves, and take pride in every aspect of their identities? Not only would women with disabilities have far greater opportunities to lead fulfilling lives and to affect change, but our world would also reap the benefits of that added value. At Miss Amazing we provide opportunities for girls and women with disabilities to consider their goals, step outside of their comfort zones, and build networks of support. By investing in girls with disabilities, we nurture a strong community of leaders who push back against stereotypes and advocate for change, thereby creating even greater opportunities for the next generation. We do this through increasing visibility, empowering personal development, nurturing friendship and community, shifting perceptions and driving systemic change. Are you ready to join us? 💜👑
