Kiona-Benton Cemetery, Evergreen Cemetery (non-profit organization) needs your help to maintain the current grounds and grow.Looking for donations to upgrade our irrigation system, new greens/chairs, equipment for burials, purchase a tractor and property. If any donations are given, we will provide a form for your taxes. Any questions please contact Karyn Ann Leonard. Please read description below and we can train. If interested, please send resume to our SECRETARY/TREASURER: Tricia Wallace use address above: The Sexton is employed and reports to the Cemetery Board Members. This is a part-time, occasional position. Candidates should be self-motivated, have strong organizational skills, work well with others and able to work independently. Requires good communication skills. Duties include, but are not limited to, working with the secretary-treasurer and funeral homes to arrange digging of graves, selling grave sites and documenting all burials. Forms must be filled out for the State of Washington and submitted at end of year. The Sexton communicates with the Secretary-Treasurer and grounds keeper for maintenance and burial logistics at the cemetery. Official cemetery records are maintained, deeds are issued and payments are processed through the Secretary-Treasurer so Sexton works closely with the Secretary-Treasurer. The general duties of the sexton may include (but are not limited to): Keeping diligent records of those buried in the cemetery and those moved to other cemeteries, as well as details of the number of lots and plots, who is owner of each, and details about the interred person Keeping and updating detailed maps of the cemeteries, including the layout of the lots and individual plots Assists clerk-treasurer office in sale of lots. Coordinating burials in the cemetery The sexton is responsible for arranging opening and closing all graves. (This ensures that graves are the proper size, vaults are properly installed, and equipment that lowers vaults and coffins into graves is set up and operates properly and safely.)
