This group is for anyone who identifies as a Woman of Color. It will focus on emotional regulation and coping with distress in difficult situations. You'll learn mindfulness skills, emotional identification, helpful self talk, and how to be accepting and compassionate toward yourself and your emotions. Dr. Karisse Callender designed this group specifically for the unique experience of Women of Color, teaching them to manage emotional waves with mindful skills while still maintaining dignity and respect. This group is based off of DBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, but do not worry- no therapy experience is necessary and participation simply means showing up as your authentic self. As a skills group, this is more about learning new skills together than sharing and processing together. It's a great intro to therapy and a great supplement for those in therapy, although that is not required whatsoever. The only requirement is that you plan to attend all 5 weeks as they build upon one another. We know things happen! Just let the facilitator know if you'll need to miss one. This is a closed group, so it will be the same people for the entire session.
