Join LCHS in celebrating the holidays with our Holiday Tea,
.Although they were born 35 years and over 1300 miles apart, Louisa May Alcott and Laura Ingalls Wilder would both become beloved authors of countless young readers everywhere.
While Louisa published her timeless classic Little Women at age 36, Laura’s first book of her Little House series didn’t go into print till she was 65. Louisa never married or had children…Laura did. As a girl, Laura never lived in one place for very long…Louisa did. One experienced firsthand the dangers and devastation of the Civil War… the other, the trials, tribulations, and transgressions of the Homestead Act and western migration. But at the hearts of both these women’s books, we always find the family…coming together to survive and celebrate all of life’s passages. And some of their most endearing and memorable stories focus on Christmas and the holidays. Join Louisa and Laura as they meet each other, compare their histories, and reminisce about favorite holiday traditions in New England and on the prairie. As Laura often said, “It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.”
