Join us to learn how and why we create Day of the Dead altars! We'll discover how the honoring of our ancestors, the Aztec culture, and deities has evolved over time to charm the whole world into what we call today "Día de Muertos.” We will explore Day of the Dead’s origin and how it has survived colonization, Christianity, and modern influences. The workshop will include a demonstration from instructor Laura González, facilitated discussion, and Q&A.
About the instructor:
Rev. Laura González is a Mexican native and has been a researcher on the Day of the Dead tradition for over 30 years. As Mexican traditions are a living culture, she is constantly learning about new discoveries, especially those pertaining to the Mexican and Indigenous Diaspora in the U.S.
Laura also offers her intuitive gifts as a Spiritual & Community Healer, Priestess, and Minister. She is a Practitioner of Traditional Mexican Folk Magic, Native Philosophies, and North American Paganism in the Goddess tradition. Her community activism is an extension of her spiritual practice; she is an advocate for the Latin American, Pagan, and LGBTQIA communities and cares deeply about women’s rights, suicide prevention, and diversity & inclusion.
