Community members are welcomed to celebrate the season in the biodiversity of Dr. and Mrs. Duke's lovingly curated global plant collection and lush grounds. You can count on the following options, and feel free to self- (& group-) organize myriad others: Long-time friend of the Garden Bruce Casteel will share classical guitar performance in the late afternoon (4-5pm)Participate in the annual turmeric harvest and propagation from our Garden specimens. If folks are interested, we can use some for a Fire Cider preparation, &/or process the harvest for drying.Meet our abundant native Spicebush and harvest some to make & share a pot of tea.Communal potluck in the evening (5 or 6?). We'll provide cards and markers to label offerings so folks can make safe & informed dietary choices.Walk in the woods along our streams with community naturalists, to observe and learn about the ecological community of the area & its history and future.One or more communal fires in the evening and night-time hours - plan to roast marshmallows, share songs & stories, or help keep the fire alight!Select local producers will offer pawpaw seedlings and plant and fungal extracts for sale. To vend your own goods, please contact us at [email protected] with other musicians - bring your own instruments to play and share if comfortable doing so!What to bring: Chairs or blankets if you want to sit or picnic on the lawnUnbreakable vessels and utensils for your partyFull, refillable water vesselsPotluck contribution/s, eg. homegrown squash to roast on the fire; locally foraged maitake to process & cook together; other plant/ fungi/ herbally-inspired food, drink, or ingredients; your potluck standby; etc.Instruments - of music, flow, relaxation, [wild]craft, healing, or other art or play (no fire play, practice, or performance at this event)Appropriate clothing and other gear for the weather, environment, and possible interactions with wildlife (notably mosquitoes and other insects)Your Community-Mind and Heart: come prepared to interact with others respectfully and considerately. This is a family friendly event, though no child care or child-specific programming will be offered. Kids are welcome to use the art supplies and participate in community activities. The Rain Date for this event is Saturday, October 29.
