Description

FrankenWines is baaaaaaaaaaaack! This year we’re putting an eerie spin on our signature Halloween event: we will convene under a waxing crescent moon in Missouri’s oldest public cemetery and the final resting place for 55,000 souls. So gather your ghouls and boos, pack a picnic, and join us in the exquisite Union Cemetery for FrankenWines on Thursday, October 27. 5:30 PM | Check-in begins at Union Cemetery 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM | Spine-chilling stories presented by Kansas City’s own Dan Barnett Tickets: $5 Members of Young Friends of the Library and Friends of the Library will receive a special treat upon entry. Join now! Seating will be offered in the grass on a first-come, first-serve basis. Be sure to bring your own chairs and blankets, and come prepared to enjoy the crisp autumn air (otherwise known as perfect reading weather!). We encourage you to pack a twilight picnic complete with all your favorite fall snacks and beverages. This year, we bring the scares, you bring the wine! Please note that there is one portable restroom on site. Pets are welcome as long as they are leashed at all times, picked up after, and will not interrupt the performance. This event is recommended for ages 18 and over. Accessibility Traveling to the event location may include high grass, bumpy terrain, and/or hills. If you require a more accessible route, please let our check-in volunteers know that you would like to pull your vehicle down the driveway for a drop-off closer to the staging area. We will also reserve a section in the front of the staging area for those who would like to be close to the drop-off area and presenter. If you would like to request additional accessibility services, please contact Young Friends of the Library at [email protected]. If possible, we ask that you please connect with us prior to October 13 so that we can work together to provide the best experience for you. About the performance: Dan Barnett is our narrator for the evening. As a voiceover artist, Dan recreated the Warner Brothers characters Tweety Bird and Pepe Le Pew for Hallmark’s plush animals, greeting cards, and holiday ornaments. He has also voiced spots for regional and local organizations such as Pizza Hut, Alterra Bank, Sprint, Missouri Lottery, Mr. Goodcents, Alaskan Fur, St. Luke’s Hospital and Pinnacle University. About the venue & co-host: Union Cemetery is the oldest public cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri, and the resting place of many Kansas City founders. It is filled with rich history and stories of politicians, artists, entrepreneurs, war heroes, and every-day people making a difference within a changing society. The Historical Society is responsible for sharing these stories and caring for the memorials and grounds that celebrate some of Kansas City’s treasured lives. Address: 227 E 28 Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64108 Parking: Available along Warwick Trafficway directly outside the cemetery gate, as well as along the street in the Union Hill neighborhood. Unless specifically requested for accessibility, parking will not be available inside the cemetery. About the host: Young Friends of the Library is a social group of young professionals and a committee of Friends of the Library, a volunteer organization championing the Kansas City Public Library and its mission to serve as a doorway to knowledge for all people in our community.
