Description

We noticed that you weren’t at the last Friday dinner, Christmas Eve, or birthday party. We understand it was nothing personal, but we have to make up for the lost time. That’s why we’re hosting this special dinner, this introduction to the cooking that has sustained our growing family for 50-plus years. My grandma’s humble roots are in a small parcel of productive land outside of the rural town of Jerez in the state of Zacatecas, Mexico. Those roots stretched and took firm anchorage in American soil, specifically the sunny, diverse suburbs of Los Angeles, and finally Las Vegas. The food that she makes follows the journey she took. It is a reflection of her human experience as a mother, a widow, and an immigrant, a love letter to the people she’s met and the recipes they’ve shared. We’re going to serve you tostadas, enchiladas, taquitos, and tacos in a casual and accessible family setting. This smattering of Abuelita's home cooking will hopefully give you an idea of what La Buena Kitchen will be all about. Most people in my family have lived with my grandma at some point with various roommates, spouses, and all sorts of fascinating characters making their way through. It’s been a house where all are welcome. And as we host you at our special dinner, we are welcoming you with the same open arms and a full plate. Thank you. Sourcream Cheesecake- This recipe has been fought over, and it's been a closely guarded secret. Buttery graham cracker crust, freshly grated cinnamon, Philadelphia cream cheese base finished with a delightfully sweet and tangy sour cream topping. Tres Leches Cake-Hella moist cake, rich and powerful but also light and airy. I'm a big fan. This dinner will be focused on serving the food that our family loves. Some of the greatest hits of our family table through the years, shared with you, the people. Most of it would be considered Mexican food, but my grandma has spent more time in the US, what’s up with that? Who? Alicia-Grandma Maria-Mom Sean-Wife Ryan-Me Brent-Brother Where and When?
