Description

I am a graduate of the Dick Grove School of Music and have studied privately with David Garibaldi, Tony Williams and Freddie Gruber. I have also had a fruitful career spanning the last 30 years here in Los Angeles. I am a native Angelino so I was around during the Sunset Strip era in the mid-80’s to early 90’s as an aspiring young drummer hopeful to end my “couch and Van-Tour” duties with varying degrees of success. Then—I got the ultimate day gig. I was fortunate enough to work as drum tech/cartage transporter for Harry McCarthy’s “Drum Paradise” when he started the company in North Hollywood back in 1988. The knowledge I gained about the real-world life of working drummers and studio sessions was invaluable—and I worked for the best in the business including: Jeff Porcaro, Vinnie Colaiuta, Simon Phillips and Tris Imbodin. What I soon realized is your ability as a drummer means very little if you can’t get the gig. I applied what I learned from A-level drummers and when my personal opportunities came, I was ready—and started getting better gigs. Whatever your ability or status is as a player and you’re NOT getting the gigs you want, we can sit down and evaluate your situation. If you’re new to drumming we’ll work on your hands and feet focusing on the techniques and grooves that WORK and disregard WHAT DOESN’T WORK. We’ll also go over why your kit is unplayable, sounds like cheap-pizza boxes and why sitting higher than a UPS postal driver or lower than a go-cart racer won’t improve your situation. Producers/Composers I’ve worked with include: Eric Valentine, Joe Floyd, Andy Johns, Jeromy Holding, Rich Mouser, Scott Holiday, Shawn Clement and David Foster. Artists I’ve recorded/played/toured with include: Black Summer Crush (better known currently as Rival Sons) Thomas Flowers, (Oleander) Blu Cantrell, Tylor Hilton, Mandy Lion, Jake E. Lee, Kingdom Come, Robert Sarzo, Lisa Hawkings. Patrick Muldoon, Gods of the Radio, Ashes II Ashes, Cry Wolf, Andy West, (The Dregs) Dan McNay, (Great White/Ronnie Montrose) Robbie Crane (Vince Neil/RATT) Eric Baines (Chicago/Dwight Yoakam) Scarlett Rivera(Bob Dylan) and Julie Lee. I am also the creator and developer of freddiegruber.com $60 per Hour $30 per Half Hour (usually runs about 45min) I have a private studio with two drum kits in Canoga Park. Contact through phone or email.
