ARMY'S FIRST TRANS OFFICER INDICTED FOR TRYING TO LEAK MILITARY RECORDS TO RUSSIA
The U.S. Army's first-ever transgender officer and wife have been indicted for trying to smuggle U.S. military medical records to Russia that they'd hoped the Kremlin "could exploit."
Some Details: Major Jamie Lee Henry (left) and Johns Hopkins Dr. Anna Gabrielan (right) are accused of using top-secret security clearance at Fort Bragg in North Carolina to steal military medical records and transport them to an undercover FBI agent who they believed was a Russian agent.
More Info: Fort Bragg is the largest one of the largest military bases in the world, with over 52,000 active duty soldiers living there - including the Army's Delta Force and Special Ops Forces.
How it went down: According to the recently unsealed indictment:
On August 17, Gabrielian told the undercover agent that 'she was motivated by her patriotism toward RUSSIA to provide any assistance she could to Russia, even if it meant being fired or going to jail.'
The couple told the agent that they could also provide insight into how America was training to assist Ukraine.
Henry told the agent that 'he had looked into volunteering to join the Russian Army after the conflict in Ukraine began, but Russia wanted people with 'combat experience,' and he did not have any.'
On August 31, Gabrielian brought the agent medical records for the spouse of a service member with the Office of Naval Intelligence and suggested Russia could 'exploit.'
During that same meeting, Henry provided medical information on five patients at Fort Bragg.
What happens next: The pair were charged with conspiracy and wrongful disclosure of health information. They face up to 15 years in federal prison if convicted.
