Description

This is a Black Indeginous, Person of Color folx only event. 1:00 ~~~Arrive/Opening Ceremony 1:30-4~~~~ Sweat Lodge After the lodge ~~~~~Food, Music, and Movement Our bodies have so much stored in them. The ancestral grief alone holds weight. This weight creates strength in us to hold so much, but do we take the time to integrate this grief within our bodies? The grief lodge is to allow for some space and time for PGM to grieve without white gaze. To breath in and out our grief, to integrate together as a collective and FOR the collective. A little background of the lodge: A sweat lodge is a place where you sit and withstand wet heat for four different rounds. These rounds vary in time and intensity. They signify the different stages of life: birth, childhood, adulthood, and death. The heat is created by grandfather stones that are heated in fire and brought into the lodge before each round. Water is poured over the stones during the rounds to produce moist heat to cleanse the body. The spiritual premises of the lodge is to commune with the spirit world and leave all that which does not serve us for the lodge. We leave these things behind in with our ancestors as we exit the lodge. For safety: It is advised to hydrate and eat lite a few hours before and after the lodge. Do not come hungry or dehydrated, this will effect how you feel inside the lodge when heated. Bring clothes that you do not mind getting wet. Crawl in and out of the lodge do not stand inside the lodge. You can bring water and exit the lodge at any time. We encourage you to listen to what your body needs; it is not a competition. Fire tenders/ Pourers : The lodge and pour will be cared for by Lee Veal. This is Tulalip land we are visiting. He has opened his land and lodge to us for this event. By the time you get there, they have prepared the stones, tended the fire/land, and prepared the lodge for your arrival. Please come in gratitude for Lee and his community. Bringing firewood (anything but cotton wood) and your own water/water receptacle is encouraged. Your Host: Hi! I am Dr. Jeen Rooks. I am a chiropractor in the lovely city of Seattle. This city does not offer a lot of spaces for us to grieve, to cry, or to just show up in our humanity. I want to encourage change through finding those spaces for us, and if I cant find them, I'm going to create them. Thank you for sharing in this with me. I look forward to connecting with you in love, in grief, and in community. I will be offering food after the lodge. This is in celebration of our initiation . The lodge signifies a spiritual undertaking and when met on the other side I feel it is worth celebrating. At the lodge we show up for ourselves to heal. That is truly a sacred act. I am excited to do this with you all. For any questions on concerns please reach for me at : [email protected] or 912-655-2399 Covid- protocols: You are welcomed to keep your mask on during the entire event. When not in the lodge we will be outside for most of the time gathered. If you feel sick or have symptoms, please do not come. There will be events in the future so no need for FOMO! Parking: Please park down the street and walk up to the property so that we don't congest Lee's driveway.
