Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Slivy’s in Silverstein Hall: The festival kicks off with a concert by contemporary jazz group Spin Cycle featuring Matt Chertoff on guitar with Tom Christensen on saxophone, Scott Neumann on drums and Matt Pavolka on bass. This event will be filmed by the Jazz Arts Group of Columbus for later broadcast on JAGTV. Tickets are not required for Thursday's event. Friday, October 21, at 8 p.m. in Sharon Martin Hall: Dan Wilson, a Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist, takes the stage with his trio. Joining Wilson on stage are Cliff Barnes on piano and Dave Throckmorton on drums. Traces of Wilson’s major guitar influences include Wes Montgomery and George Benson and can be discerned through his playing, but his musical identity has been shaped by everything from gospel and blues to traditional jazz, hip-hop and horn players like Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson. Wilson is a Mack Avenue recording artist and 2022 North American winner of the Letter One Rising Stars Jazz Award. His latest album, Vessels of Wood and Earth, was released on Christian McBride’s Brother Mister Productions. Festival director, Brett Burleson and his trio will open the concert. Burleson, a long-time Columbus musician, teaches guitar and coordinates guitar studies at Denison. Joining him on stage are fellow Denison faculty Seth Rogers on drums and Dean Hulett on bass. Saturday, October, 22, at 8 p.m. in Sharon Martin Hall: Jazz guitarist Jonathan Kriesberg and his quartet close out the festival. Fresh off a European tour, Kriesberg is joined by Or Bareket on bass, Martin Bejerano on piano and Karl-Henrik Ousback on drums. Kreisberg has been steadily building his name as one of the most compelling composer/performers in Jazz. Combining timeless melodicism with forward thinking lines and textures, His style and approach has created a strong following of fans around the world. He frequently tours worldwide and records with his own groups as well artists such as Dr. Lonnie Smith, who says of Kreisberg "He is a passionate musician with great vision, and he is constantly in fiery pursuit of innovation." Kriesberg has now recorded Ten CDs as a leader, including his latest two albums, “CAPTURING SPIRITS - JKQ LIVE!” and “KREISBERG MEETS VERAS”, the first being his first live album with his dynamic new quartet and the second a document of his great musical friendship with nylon string genius Nelson Veras.
