LBMA presents a screening of The Cool School, a documentary film directed by Morgan Neville about the rise of the contemporary arts scene in LA. Following the screening, Deputy Director of Collections and Exhibitions, Paul Loya will discuss the context of this film in today's contemporary art world. The Cool School is a lesson in how a few renegade artists built an art scene from scratch. The 2008 American documentary film follows the rise of the LA contemporary art scene. Directed by Morgan Neville, it focuses on the Ferus Gallery and its founders, Walter Hopps and Ed Kienholz. This event is held in the Long Beach Museum of Art's Lane Oceanview Gallery. Food & DrinksClaire's at the Museum restaurant will be open from 9 AM - 2 PM should you wish to join us for brunch prior to the film start. Food and drinks are not allowed inside the museum. ParkingFree parking and EV charging stations are available in the Museum parking lot on Ocean Boulevard, one block west of the main entrance. Metered parking is available on the beach. To park on the beach, turn off of Ocean Blvd. at Junipero and follow the road to the parking lot. There are stairs to the Museum from this area.
