Description

Join Friends of Edgewood docents for a free hike starting from the Edgewood Trailhead at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve. Discover what’s special about autumn at Edgewood as you hike through oak woodlands and native grasslands. We will make frequent stops to take a closer look of the many plants and animals that call Edgewood home. We'll look for fall colors, interesting seed heads, acorns, galls, spiders, and more! Our hikes are moderately paced and about 3 miles. Elevation gain is approximately 372 feet. This hike is geared toward adults and older children interested in learning more about the extraordinary biodiversity at San Mateo County’s only natural preserve. Note that Edgewood’s many narrow trails cannot accommodate strollers. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Consider sunscreen, a hat, and snacks. Restrooms and water are available only at the Education Center or the picnic area near the Sylvan Trailhead. Please plan ahead. All participants, including children, must be registered individually and have approved the Covid-19 policy and liability waiver through Eventbrite. We will meet at the entrance to the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center. More details on where and when to meet will be emailed to participants before the event. Group size is very limited. Please cancel your reservation if you are unable to attend so others can have a chance to join us. Drop-ins will not be allowed for this event. Heavy rain cancels this hike.
