Title: Lock and Dam 25 New 1,200’ Lock Presenter: Amanda Fisher Abstract: The capacity of the Mississippi River navigation system is limited by the existing lock facilities coupled with the typical barge lengths. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District’s Lock 25 is one of seven 1200-foot lock chambers authorized by the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program (NESP) and the first to be funded for construction. Lock and Dam 25 is located along the Mississippi River in Winfield, Missouri and consists of a single 600-foot lock. The new 1,200-foot lock expansion at Lock 25 will significantly reduce lockage delays and increase overall safety for operating and towing personal. Expansion will contribute to the efficient, sustainable, cost-effective, and safe transport of critical commodities within the United States and to deep water ports for export. The proposed project features include construction of a 1,200-foot pile-founded lock in the auxiliary miter gate bay, a 1,200-foot upstream ported approach wall, and a 650-foot downstream approach wall. The existing 600-foot lock will remain in place and will become an auxiliary lock chamber used primarily by recreational traffic. This presentation will serve as a project update with focus on project background, project features, and path forward for the project. Biography: Ms. Fisher is a Project Manager for the Lock and Dam 25 New 1,200’ Lock Project with the US Army Corps of Engineers - St. Louis District. Lunch will be at noon, with socializing starting at 11:30.
