Description

The Polk County Heritage Gallery seeks volunteers to staff the welcome desk inside the Gallery. You will have a front row seat to see art work by local and state artists who are exhibited in the hall. The Gallery hosts six or seven exhibits per year, so there is always something new to see. The Heritage Gallery is housed in a magnificent arched hall with huge windows that formerly served as the lobby of the Main Post Office. The Gallery is open every day the county administration building is open from 11 am to 4:30 pm. Two shifts are scheduled each day, each no more than 3 hours long. The gallery is closed on county designated holidays and any other days when the Administration Building is closed to the public. Volunteers greet visitors, count visitors as they enter the space, and provide information about the exhibition to visitors who ask. Sometimes they assist visitors who are looking for other city/county/state or federal offices or services. Volunteers may read during their shift, or listen to the radio or music, or log onto the county wi-fi system and surf the web. You may select as many or as few shifts per month as fits your schedule and interest. Stop in at the Heritage Gallery, or email for more information.
