Tacoma Meaningful Movies is pleased to co-present a screening of The Death of My Two Fathers with The Grand Cinema during the Tacoma Film Festival.
When William Guy was facing a terminal illness in his early 50s, he decided to dictate his life story to tape as a legacy for his children to know him better. It's taken 20 years for his son Sol to be able to press play and revisit his father's journey as a Black man from Kansas City, Missouri, to Vancouver Island. Sol retraces his own roots between Canada and the US, while reconnecting with his four distant siblings and extended family members. Framed as a heartfelt letter to his teenage children, Sol composes a multi-generational contemplation on race, death, love and the importance of family. Coming to terms with his own history, he recognizes that "what we don't heal, what we don't confront, we pass on."
