Description

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, the Dedham Public Library will host a screening of the Emmy-award winning film Dawnland, a documentary focusing on the removal of indigenous children from their families and their fight for cultural survival. For decades, child welfare agencies have been removing Native American children from their homes to save them from being Indian. This film shares the stories of these children and families and follows Maine's truth and reconciliation commission as they begin their historic investigation. Dawnland goes behind-the-scenes as the commission grapples with difficult truths, redefines reconciliation, and charts a new course for state and tribal relations. There will be time for reflection and discussion following the film.
