Sonoma Technology is seeking an Instrument Technician to assist with and conduct field measurements as part of industrial and community air monitoring projects. The projects use sophisticated instruments and small sensor technology to collect air quality and meteorological data. The measurements support applications in meteorology, air quality, air quality health effects, public information on air quality in communities, and other environmental disciplines. You will work with our experienced senior scientists and clients to execute both long- and short-term monitoring projects in environmental monitoring; training will be provided as needed. While the position and most of the work are based in Northern California, project work may occur throughout the U.S. and occasionally internationally. Key Responsibilities • Perform equipment installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibrations - Install, operate, and maintain ambient gas and particle measuring instruments - Install, operate, and maintain meteorological and upper-air instruments (e.g., anemometers, hygrometer, thermistors, visibility and precipitation sensors, and sodars) - Install, operate, and maintain ultraviolet volatile organic compound analyzers - Install, operate, and maintain small/low-cost sensors - Perform instrument audits (meteorological and air quality) - Conduct data review and quality control - Follow standard operating procedures and keep proper documentation - Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation to respond to instrument issues and concentration exceedances as needed • Assist in communicating project information to project managers and staff Required Qualifications and Skills • Strong interest in working with sophisticated air quality and meteorological instrumentation • Excellent communication, organization, time-management, problem-solving, and customer service skills • Proficiency in mechanical and electrical systems • Skilled with basic hand tools and electrical testing devices • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with computer programming is a plus • Ability and willingness to travel locally, and occasionally outside of the state or country • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record • Ability to pass initial and random drug tests Desired Qualifications • A degree in an environmental, chemical, or physical science or engineering • Experience with air quality and/or meteorology measurements • Experience with environmental data acquisition systems • Experience with data communications equipment To Apply Please send a letter of interest and a resume by email, mail, or fax to: Cathy Anthony Sonoma Technology 1450 N.
