By 2025, nearly 53,000 New Mexico residents aged 65 and older with be living with Alzheimer’s disease, a 23.3% increase from just five years prior in 2020. The disease disproportionately impacts minority populations, with Latino Americans 1.5 times as likely to be diagnosed as their White counterparts. Additionally, as many as 1 in 3 Native American elders will develop Alzheimer’s disease or some other form of dementia (statistics according to the Alzheimer’s Association).
Global pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company will be bringing mobile research units to events in Albuquerque for the first time ever. Attendees aged 65 years and older will have the opportunity to undergo a free blood screening to see if they’re at risk for Alzheimer’s disease and to potentially be enrolled in an ongoing clinical trial.
These mobile research units, which will be at the Veteran's Walk and The 26th Annual 50+ Expo, were created to make clinical trials for Alzheimer’s disease accessible to everyone, but most especially underserved communities and people of color.
