This October, The Frida Cinema is proud to present Beautiful Monsters: A Guillermo del Toro Film Retrospective and Tribute Art Show, featuring all eleven of the Academy Award-winning director’s feature films; three acclaimed films he produced; and seven films that served to inspire him. The series continues at The Frida Cinema with Crimson Peak, a Gothic romance set in Edwardian England.
Mia Wasikowska stars as Edith, a young Victorian woman haunted by visions of her deceased mother who repeatedly appears to offer just one simple and ominous warning: “Beware of Crimson Peak.” When Edith marries the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe, she finds herself swept away to Crimson Peak, his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille, Thomas’ alluring and mysterious sister. As her mother’s apparitions are soon met with increasingly ghastly visions seemingly produced by the house itself, Edith explores the Gothic castle in the hopes of trying to solve the mysteries that seems to plague the estate – secrets that Lady Lucille seems hellbent on keeping silent.
