When: October 27, 2022 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.Where: Coburn Hall Room 255Cost: Free Join the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) Public Health Law Program for a Public Health Law 101 session followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) about the CDC’s new Public Health Law Program Fellowship. The Public Health Law 101 session will take place from 11 a.m. - Noon and will introduce fundamental principles of law, ethics, and the legal system as they frame public health practice in the United States. The Public Health Law Program Fellowship Q&A will follow from 12:15-1 p.m. CDC's Public Health Law Program Fellowship will provide paid, hands-on learning experiences to recent graduates, masters students, and law students to prepare them for careers in public health law and policy. Fellows will have a practical opportunity to explore law and policy topics while collaborating with professionals from state, tribal, local, and territorial (STLT) health departments, CDC, and non-governmental organizations. The fellowship program aims to increase diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion in the public health workforce as well as increase the workforce's understanding and use of law as a public health tool. Each fellow will receive training in public health law, legal epidemiology, social determinants of health, health equity, emergency legal preparedness, environmental law, and more. Participants will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge through work with law and policy experts across a variety of disciplines through research, providing technical assistance, and conducting legal epidemiology projects that examine the important public health problems jurisdictions face today.
