The volunteer for patient related service provides emotional support to terminally ill patients and their families through direct patient care. These volunteers may also assist hospice staff in the office. The volunteer must work with the volunteer coordinator to provide appropriate services to hospice patients and their families. Volunteers are provided with training to increase understanding of the hospice concept and the interdisciplinary team that provides complete care for the patient and family.
