TSISMIS + CHEESECAKE is a community listening session for those who have connections to the Chinatown-International District area. We will dream, vision, and get updated about what is happening at King Street Station: new orgs are moving into the neighborhood! Moonyeka will be holding a container for community members to freely express their hopes, concerns, and thoughts about programming and relationship building with the stewards of the new space: The Rhapsody Project x Red Eagle Soaring x Totem Star! “Tsismis” is a Tagalized spelling of the Spanish word “chismes (pl; chisme, singular)”, as “gossip” This event will be taking place @ flower flower 619 S Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104 Wednesdays 6PM-7:30PM 9/28 10/12 10/26 limited to 15 registrants per day cost: free! Hood Famous + C-ID centric snacks provided About the Venue: "flower flower is a neighborhood arts "greenhouse" where community stories flourish, and creative expression is nurtured, cultivated, and resourced. We are a collective of queer and trans, Pasifika and Asian artists and cultural workers who aim to create accessible, thriving art spaces in the Chinatown International District for our communities to heal and grow together." Covid Care & Safety: a. Masks are required inside our space. Please be considerate of people’s space when removing your mask to eat and drink. Outside of the storefront, masks are encouraged but not required at all times. That being said, if you are talking to people in close proximity please wear a mask. b. flower flower will have masks available at the space if you are in need of one. c. Covid Precautions: Staff and volunteers will also support in ensuring that covid precautions are taking place by limiting the space to our capacity, 15 people. d. If you have any specific covid care requests, please let us know. Getting to the CID: There are a few accessible parking spaces in the CID. Parking on the weekends can be really difficult in the CID, flower flower recommends carpooling and/or taking public transportation to get to the space if you can! a. Transportation options: • Link Light rail to the Chinatown International District. • The 7, 14, 36, 106 are all bus lines that will bring you directly into the neighborhood, with Maynard St being the closest stop to flower flower. b. Safety: i. flower flower does not tolerate any form of harassment, violence, and endangerment of any one participating, supporting, or being present at the storefront. ii. flower flower is a space that is created by and for Queer and Trans people of color. We will prioritize the care and wellbeing of such. iii. There are first aid kits located in flower flower, please find a staff member to help guide you to one. c. Be a good neighbor: . Houseless neighbors are our neighbors! Please treat our neighbors with respect and kindness, and if we can offer any resources or PPE we will do our best to. About the Facilitator: Moonyeka (they/them/Angel) is a nonbinary Filipinx femme performance shapeshifter, witch, teaching artist, curator, scholar, and interdisciplinary artist with a specialty in dance. Moonyeka currently serves as the Storytelling Strategist + Project Manager for The Rhapsody Project. Moonyeka is one of Velocity Dance Center’s 2022 Creative Residents where they are creating CENSORED, a research process centering QT + POC show girl histories, re-mything work + divination collaborations of Aswang* Filipinx spirits, the whorearchy, performance intelligences, systems, and technologies of artist working girls. As apart of their Base residency Moonyeka will be doing an audiovisual + dance research of Harana, a Filipinx serenade song form that centers courtship rituals, and more unpopularly, grief rituals. Moonyeka's past interdisciplinary performance works include BASTOS(2017), BASTOS TALAGA (2018), In The White Frame (2018), Inang Bayan (2019), SIN-EATER (2021), Mother of Pearl (2022) which have been presented in festivals, living rooms, queer night clubs, Velocity Dance Center, On The Boards, Heidi Duckler's (MAP), Risk/Reward, Museum of Museums, BASE, Seattle Center, across diaspora and beyond. Moonyeka is also one of the co-curators for Nightlight, a full moon ritual, performance event and dance party in partnership with Velocity Dance Center. Amongst many projects and collaboration Moonyeka shapeshifts as a songstrexx/lyricist/performer of The Gender Tender Experiment. If you're extremely lucky (by tipping $100 bills) you may see their baby drag persona, Neon Orchid grace the Queer Trans stages of Seattle with the Melted Forest, a psychedelic creature forest drag house led by Fox Whitney.
