Description

Howard University will host the 7th LGBTQIA Lavender Reception during Homecoming this Fall on October 19, 2022. This groundbreaking event serves to raise awareness and funds for LGBT student scholarships and research for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Monies raised are placed into a secured established University account called, the Lavender Fund. The event and fundraiser were founded by Howard University Graduate Student Trustee, Mr. Christopher Cross—the University’s 1st openly gay male student Trustee in its 155 year history. The LGBTQIA Lavender Reception is an official Howard University (HU) Homecoming event. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for Bison family and friends (Allies) to support their HU-LGBT brothers and sisters. Contributions will be placed into the Lavender Fund which will promote this culture of inclusion.  The Lavender Fund will be used to address the pathology of homophobia that continues to divide our community in the form(s) of scholarship, research, and services. It is time to tear away the masks and address the issues that have been festering to alleviate the isolation, bullying, and depression among members of our LGBT community.
