Jazzy On The Lawn - In celebration of Fall Season , the Elmwood Church lawn will come alive with the explosive sounds of jazzy live music. Elmwood Culture Club welcomes the all female quartet led by by saxophonist Lee Odom featuring international bassist Kim Clarke, drummer extraordinaire Lucianna Padmore and the international touring pianist Mala Waldron. Leading off this Jazzy Fall Afternoon on the Elmwood Lawn experience will be the Stephen Fuller Quintet. Stephen Fuller is one of North Jersey’s dynamic bass / baritone singers. Sweet Lee Odom MusicLee Odom's instrumental spectrum includes the clarinet, alto/soprano saxophone, flute, also a composer, bandleader, whose musical spectrum includes, gospel, free improved music, jazz, R&B, and classical. A native of NC studied music industry and clarinet performance at Appalachian State University, Boone NC. Lee ventured to NYC in 2011 where she quickly found her way into various musical communities. Lee has performed with Don Byron, JD Parron, The Karl Berger Improv Orchestra, Canaan Baptist Church Music Ministry, 12 Houses Free Improv, the Makanda Project Boston, MA, UpSurge and will be an Artist-in-Residence at Holmes Presbyterian Camp, Holmes, NY. Lee Odom also performs as the bandleader, with Sweet Lee Music, performing at various venues and festivals throughout NY, Boston, CT. Joining Lee Odom on this afternoon fabulous event. Mala Waldron - Keys Vocalist/Pianist/Composer Mala Waldron (pronounced MAL-uh WALL-drun) is a New York City native who balances local performances with tours all over Europe and Asia. As a band leader, Mala has performed with her group at many esteemed venues including the Jazz Standard, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, the 55 Bar, Cornelia St. Cafe, BAM Cafe , the 1st Annual Coltrane Day Music Festival, and most recently at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the 17th Annual Jazz in the Valley festival with the Christopher Dean Sullivan Ensemble. Caylen Bryant - Bass who also goes by the name “The Bass Chica”, describes her sound as a quilt made from many different squares. As a bassist, cellist, and vocalist, she draws inspiration from many places. Her father, Lance Bryant is a saxophonist, composer, arranger and vocalist from whom she draws inspiration as well. Growing up in a musical household, she learned from both of her parents that music is a language that the whole world speaks. Caylen is active in the New York/New Jersey area, and has shared the stage with the Lionel Hampton Big Band and the Christian McBride Big Band. She was also the Musical Director for the theatre production “The Bluest Eye” at her alma mater, Oberlin in 2017. She is the current bassist for Blue Note Record Artist, Kandace Springs, and toured with her in February of 2020. The tour featured an all female band, and served to promote Springs’ upcoming album "The Women Who Raised Me" a tribute to the female vocalists who most impacted Springs' musical identity. In her most recent studio recording, Bryant was the bassist for the 2020 Grammy award-winning album “All the Ladies” by Joanie Leeds, an album focused on female empowerment, written, produced, recorded and performed entirely by women. She also teaches privately and has worked with Jazz House Kids and the New Jersey Youth Symphony Orchestra Jazz Program. Jinmi Kim - Drums Jinmi started learning classical piano at 7 years old in Korea and majored in drums in college in Korea. She also furthered her studies where she went to William Paterson University in the United States and majored in Jazz Composition & Arranging where she attained her Master of Music in Jazz Arranging. Drummer and composer Jinmi Kim has performed around the world, from New York to Korea. Now Jinmi is a New York, New Jersey based drummer who has played at numerous clubs in Korea such as Club Evans, Jass and All that jazz in Korea. In the New Jersey area she has performed in Glen Pointe, Hat City, etc and in New York at the Red Room, Smoke, Silvana and and is also participating in the BMI jazz workshop. Jinmi is a student of Jim McNeely, Pete McGuinness, completed arrangement for Joe Lovano and conducted it, and has successfully performed with heavy hitter musicians such as Vincent Herring, Roni Ben-Hur and others on the local scene. Lynette Sheard - Vocals Lynette Sheard is a gifted versatile vocalist with a five octave range. She is an actor, producer and director. She is the unseated “West Orange Idol”. Her performances have been acknowledged in numerous publications including, NY Times, The Record and the Chronicle. The Star Ledger proclaims that “Her voice reaches deep into one’s soul and finds a soft spot” She performs Jazz, R&B, Gospel, Soul and Pop music throughout the tri-state areaStephen Fuller Quintet Stephen Fuller dynamic bass/baritone sings to diverse cross-generational audiences and has performed in Spain, Israel, Central America and parts of the Caribbean. He is often heard performing in upscale Jazz clubs throughout NJ such as Shanghai Jazz (Madison), Hyatt Regency (New Brunswick), Trumpets Jazz Club (Montclair), the Priory Jazz Club (Newark), Hibiscus Restaurant (Morristown), and the Stony Hill Inn (Hackensack). Stephen performs in NY as well at the Metropolitan Room, the Iguana Room, and monthly at Tomi Jazz Club. Stephen’s voice has been compared to Jon Lucien and Johnny Hartman while performing a repertoire of R&B, Jazz, Calypso, and Gospel. He currently serves on the board of directors of the New Jersey Jazz Society and is a winner of the 2016 Jazz Forum Arts - Vocal Competition. This dynamic bass/baritone sings to diverse cross-generational audiences and has performed in Spain, Israel, Central America and parts of the Caribbean. He is often heard performing in upscale Jazz clubs throughout NJ such as Shanghai Jazz (Madison), Hyatt Regency (New Brunswick), Trumpets Jazz Club (Montclair), the Priory Jazz Club (Newark), Hibiscus Restaurant (Morristown), and the Stony Hill Inn (Hackensack). Gordon Lane - Drums Gordon Lane is a highly respected presence on the jazz scene. The list of artists Gordon has performed with illuminates his skill and versatility. Some of the notables are: Ahmad Jamal, Claudio Roditi, Arthur Prysock, Rhoda Scott, Alvin Batiste, James Moody, Houston Person, Freddy Cole, Stanley Jordan, , Eric Reed, Slide Hampton, Donald Braden and Michel LeGrand.Ted Brancato - Keys Jazz pianist Ted Brancato is a musician with four decades of experience in the music business. Since his early days, growing up in Seattle, WA, Ted has been actively performing, composing, arranging and recording music. Ted has performed and recorded with Houston Person, Ron Carter, Christian McBride, Milt Jackson, Ernestine Anderson and Paquito D'Rivera among other.Thadeus Expose - Bass Thaddeus Exposé was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a professional jazz bassist, composer, recording artist and successful inventor of the “BowStopper.” Thaddeus earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in Jazz Studies from William Paterson University. During his career, Thaddeus has performed with the following jazz artists: Marcus Roberts, Red Holt, Stanley Turrentine, The Marsalis', Jennifer Holiday, Billy Pierce, Billy Higgins, Betty Carter, Barry Harris, Donald Harrison, Ira Sullivan, Roy Haynes, Nicholas Payton, Savion Glover and Winard Harper, as well as countless other artists. Oloye Karade - Congas Oloye Ifa Karade has been playing congas and percussion for over two decades. His travels and performances in The Caribbean, Brazil, Europe, The US, and Nigeria, West Africa have shaped his playing and compositions giving rise to his unique style and technique.
