All Donations go to support Cafe con Libros Press. Every year Cafe con Libros has made sugar skull decorating a tradition. When the pandemic hit things changes. Well it's time again… to decorate sugar skulls for Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos.) In this workshop, Chukaruka will provide all the materials you need to decorate your very own sugar skull. During the Day of the Dead (Nov 2) people celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away by hosting celebrations, feasts, cemetery visits, and setting up/ decorating altars. Sugar Skulls have become a part of mainstream culture and can be created as an artful confection or an altar adornment for this unique holiday. Chukaruka honors the holiday and the art of sugar skull decorating by presenting this workshop. There will be a short presentation describing the process of making the skulls and participants will be free to let their creativity shine through as they personalize their very own sugar skulls. Each participant will receive: A blank sugar skull approx 4” x 2” x 3” . These skulls are individually handcrafted by pressing sugar and meringue into molds, compacted, and dried to harden. A selection of colored icings, and sugar decorationsA selection of non-edible decorations (foil, paper flowers, and/or sequins)Chukaruka will provide an opportunity for attendees to explore our curated collection of merchandise that celebrate sugar skulls and Day of the Dead traditions. Additional kits will be available for purchase. Cafe con Libros provides a community space, bookstore, and lending library where everyone is welcome. Come and enjoy this fun and family friendly event. Your Facilitator will be Robert Turner Robert Turner is the co-owner of Chukaruka and an educator.
