Jazz is Not Dead; Dead is Not Jazz

I can appreciate wanting to play music at a jazz level; but you play jazz at a jazz level... Not Grateful Dead. That's jam band level. There is no jazz level. That's its appeal, to the degree that there is one... no jazz level anything. If the Grateful Dead had been capable of playing at a jazz level, they'd have been playing jazz. If you want to play Grateful Dead, just leave jazz out of it. I think everybody will be happier that way.
