Summit Research is currently enrolling participants (65 and older) in a pneumococcal pneumonia vaccine study. Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that is caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. Vaccines and healthy living practices help lower the risk of getting pneumonia. Pneumonia affects millions of people each year. Some people are at higher risk of getting pneumonia including: • Adults 65 years of age and older • People with ongoing medical conditions or weakened immune systems • Cigarette smokers The best way to help prevent pneumonia is to get vaccinated.
