Hi. Looking for an upright bassist with own gear (and car to travel) to accompany a Vocal Group specializing in the Doowop and Motown Soul music styles of the 50s and 60s. Rehearsals are typically one evening a week (no more than 3 times a month) and calendar of gigs will fill up more by the holidays and into 2023. Great if you enjoy the soulful Doowop of the 1950’s and early 60’s (The Drifters, etc.) and the Motown Soul acts of the 1960’s (The Temptations, etc.) and the Classic Soul 70’s (The Stylistics, etc.). Please also be reliable, professional, and flexible. Arrangements may change on the spot so the ability to follow the vocal group and to figure out keys and know the songs we ask you to prepare well, will be helpful. A jazz bass background and excellent ear and musicianship is pretty much expected. Flexible schedule weeknights and weekends is preferred. If you’re in 10 different projects and gigging full time with another band, then this is probably not for you. Please be professional and tardy. (Wearing a suit for private and corporate event gigs and getting to shows in the tri-state area should not be a difficult task for you.) If you have a spare smaller upright acoustic electric bass for travel, that would be a plus but not a requirement. Great for college students and professionals who would like to be dedicated to a cool and fun project that gigs on average 2 or 3 times a month. Serious inquiries only.
