""Ford invested 700 million in Electric Trucks (corte madera)
The investment is paying off big time. The Trucks are selling out months before production begins.""
REALITY TIME:
My neighbor and I just ran an experiment last month:
Last spring, I bought a brand-new Ford gasoline pickup truck.
Two months ago, my next-door neighbor bought a Ford Lightning electric truck.
We both have travel trailers of similar size and weight.
Two weeks ago, we towed our travel trailers to our favorite camping site. -- The camp site is 115 miles from our homes.
We towed the trailers and carefully watched our gas gauge and charge gauges along the way.
After 86 miles, my neighbor had to stop and recharge his truck.
His gauge showed 8% charge left, which may have gotten him another 7 or 8 miles, if he really pushed it until the batteries were dead.
While my friend had to stop to charge his truck, I kept on going to the camp site.
I was sitting at the campsite for almost 2 hours, all set up, kicking back and drinking a beer when he finally showed up.
After camping, we headed home, and it was the same story.
My friend did better on the way back, he made it almost 95 miles before he had to stop and charge his vehicle again.
I made it home easily on my original tank of gas, never had to fill up during the entire trip.
My total drive time was about 4 hours.
My friend was on the road for about 7 hours for the same trip, including the charging.
My truck ended up going 260 miles on a tank of gas pulling a trailer.
My friend would have to charge his vehicle at least 3 maybe 4 times to go that same distance.
Our conclusion was, electric trucks are fine for around town, but long trips are a problem if you're trying to get somewhere in a timely manner.
